The Jakarta press announces today that Indonesia threatens to shut down all of BlackBerry messenger services. Rumours have surfaced that RIM has decided to build their server outside of Indonesia; settling for Singapore.
According to the Indonesian Telecommunications Regulation Body (BRTI), “Because RIM has not been cooperative, it is possible that we will soon end BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) and BBM service. BlackBerry therefore, would just be like other cellular phones.”
RIM really can’t seem to catch a break these days, first seeing the lowest stock price numbers since its company debut; dropping 50% in August; then experiencing a loss in top executives; then was held responsible for the UK riots, refusing to shut down their BBM service.
Earlier on this week, two RIM executives were caught completely inebriated drunk on their way to Beijing, forcing the entire plane to make an emergency landing in Vancouver. Then a sales stampede in Indonesia and now deciding to ditch an original commitment made to Indonesia back in September for Singapore.
Now that’s poor management.
