Mind boggling.
The average human flushes down 7-9 litres of natural fertilizer every week.
Confused?
According to Finnish environmental scientist Surendra Pradhan, urine can help increase the growth of your vegetable garden produce by 4.2 times.
Pradhan tested the natural fertilizer with tomatoes; mixing urine with wood ash from a normal furnace.
How does urine mixed with wood ash help your vegetable garden?
Urine contains natural nutrients such as, nitrogen, potassium and phosphate — amongst other nutrients — and when merged with the calcium carbonate found in wood ash, it resulted in pee-powered tomatoes; growing over 4 times more produce compared to the batch that wasn’t powered with the natural fertilizer.
Brave taste testers confirmed its taste; stating that the pee-powered tomatoes tasted equivalent to or better than “everyday” tomatoes. The test also discovered that the pee-powered batch contained more protein as well.
Gardeners and farmers who have used this method suggest that it is better to dilute your urine; urine contains high content of nitrogen, which may be too much for your vegetable garden.
Ultimately, when you use urine as a natural fertilizer, research shows any random Joe gardener can produce 141 more pounds of fruits and vegetables per year.
Mind boggling, eh?
Hooray for science and urine!
